In the market for a new forklift truck? Whether you’re looking to buy a new or used forklift truck, or you want to hire one, the type you get will be completely dependent on your requirements.
If you’ve been thinking about going for a gas forklift truck, here’s what you need to know.
Overview of gas forklift trucks
Costs
The initial purchase of gas forklift trucks can be cheaper than both electric and diesel forklifts, however, ongoing maintenance and fuel costs are higher than any other type of forklift which can mean you’re not really saving much money in the long run. Fossil fuel prices are also rising so this would need to be factored in.
Performance
Gas forklift trucks can be used both inside and outside, day or night, and are quieter to run than their diesel counterparts. However, you need a very skilled operator to use a gas forklift truck – more skilled than if you had another type of truck. Gas forklift trucks are very manoeuvrable and travel speeds and acceleration levels are higher than both diesel and electric forklifts. You can’t really beat a gas forklift truck on performance!!
Maintenance
Parts for gas truck engines are readily available and are often at competitive prices. However, it can be difficult to know when there’s something going wrong with a gas truck which leads to higher repair costs. Additionally, gas trucks can often run out of fuel without warning as pressure switches and gauges can be quite poor. You’ll also need to get a winter service on a gas forklift truck to help it cope with colder temperatures.
So if you’re looking for a high performance forklift truck that you don’t mind paying a bit more for over the course of owning it, a gas forklift truck might be the perfect addition to your fleet. Alternatively, you could go down the forklift truck hire route to keep costs down but keep performance up!
