IR Motion Detector Set To Increase Forklift Safety

A new forklift IR motion detector is set to be very popular as the new machine aims to guarantee safer working environments, especially where members of the public may encounter forklift areas. Businesses who either have their own machines or use forklift hire services will welcome this new bit of safety kit.

Areas where a forklift is being used can often be hazardous; take construction sites for instance. These kinds of sites use heavy machinery daily and there can often be reduced visibility. Building materials weigh a lot which means an accident can be fatal. Even worse is where the area is busy and pedestrians need to walk past. This can cause danger even where all the correct signage and health and safety procedures have been carried out. The correct and proper use of forklifts is therefore a necessity – but the newly developed IR motion detector looks to help this issue.

The machine has been developed in areas where forklift traffic and pedestrian traffic intersect. This can often be a risky area as forklift drivers operate the machine slowly but cannot always tell if someone is round the back of the vehicle. Where children might cross the path can also be a danger, as children will dip under the operator’s field of vision. With the new motion detector, LED warning lights will flash and alert the forklift driver if there is anyone around the machine.

What is unique about the unit is that it is self powered, which makes it handy to use when on the go without any wiring or electrical work, as it operates on D cell batteries. Many similar apparatus in the past have needed to be wired into the system, which can become expensive and a hassle, especially if the forklift is an older model.

Installing this motion detector, however, is easy. This is because you do not need any tools, which means that any person working on the site should find it easy to fit. The unit comes with magnets fitted to its mounts , which enables it to snap into place on the rack.

The ease of use of the product means that many forklift operators are investing in the unit for all of their forklifts on site. The extra peace of mind enables forklift users to drive the machines with more care and awareness.

Testimonials

H&F have supplied us with all our fork lift equipment for in excess of ten years now, and have maintained it in accordance with our stringent operation requirements. During this time they have provided a consistently high level of service (including short term hire when required) whilst never failing to support us in a totally honest and professional manner.

H&F Lift Trucks are a pleasure to deal with. All staff, Technicians, Sales and Directors have hands-on experience of all ranges of vehicles they supply. From initial assessments and listening to all users of a potential new vehicle requirement, they keep us informed of all aspects of specification and lead times through to delivery. Their maintenance service is superb – they organise suitable times around our busy working day with our Yard Managers. Any accidental damage or operator error faults are always discussed with me and dealt with fairly – not like some unscrupulous suppliers who seek to profit at every service visit! In a cut-throat market, where we are offered “good deals” a few quid cheaper every day, we are never tempted to stray.
